Sex education in Philippines




A new education campaign in philippines schools has sparked whispered debate in Asia's border of Catholism ,where the high birthrate is blamed for desperate poverty.

The united nations ,backed programme which is being piloted this mojth in primary and high schools, aims to promote sex, limit the spread of HIV AIDS . However the catholic church and powerful conswevetive crusaders have struck back with a Haifa profile compaign to shut down the project.

Sex education in schools so not the answer to our population problem and poverty, Enc Man Lang,head of the conservative political party Ang ka patiran.Conservative religion forces led by the Church hold a lot of sway in the Philippines ,where more than 80% of the nation's 90million people are Catholic.

Nevertheless the education department has so faithed firm.It says the programme is aimed at curbing a population growth rate of over two per cent, among the highest in Asia and doesn't promote out of marriages sex.

The scheme covers topics such as reproductive Steam and cycles , hy-giene, pte-martal sex, teenage pregmamcy and sexually transmitted diseases according to tne education department.
